OFFERTORY – Last week’s offertory was $5,326.  Thank you for your generosity.  Next week’s Second Collection will be for the 2008 Collection to Aid the Church in Central & Eastern Europe. 

But they said to him, "Five loaves and two fish are all we have here." Then he said, "Bring them to me," and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. ST. MATTHEW’S PARISH PICNIC

Will be held on Saturday, August 9, following the 4:00pm Mass.  Sign-up sheets are at the exits of the church.  All parishioners and their families are welcome to attend this catered event, small donation at the door, ($5 per person/$10per family).

DOMINICAN SISTERS BAKE SALE – Will be held at St. Matthew’s the weekend of August 16 & 17 after all Masses.  The Sisters will have bread, brownies, apple pies, and blueberry pies for sale.  These are all baked accordingly to the Dominican community recipes.  Proceeds are used to buy medical supplies for their mission to support the lepers.

 Our outing is the main source of funding for our annual scholarship program for seniors from St. Matthew Parish.  You can help us in a number of ways.  You can organize a foursome, sponsor a hole or tee, or donate a gift for the raffle.  Please call the Parish Office for a registration form, or if you can help out that day.  Thanks for your support.

Worcester Diocese Adopt-A-Student Raffle

 

The Adopt-A-Student program provides tuition assistance to students attending one of the four Worcester Diocesan Central Catholic Schools – St. Bernard’s, Holy Name, St. Peter Central Elementary, and St. Peter-Marian.  Raffle Tickets are $20 each or 3 for $50.  Drawing will bell held on August 25, 2008.  For tickets or more information please call Kay O’Brien at 508-485-8557.

RAFFLE PRIZES

             1st Prize – One-year tuition to one of the Central Catholic Schools or $3,000 cash.

             2nd Prize – Two night accommodations for four, double occupancy and two rounds of golf at Fox Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, Nova Scotia. The value is $2,200.

Youth Ministry

EL SALVADOR MISSION TRIP – St. Matthew and St. Anne Youth Ministry is considering an out of country mission experience, possible to El Salvador, during February 2009 vacation week.  If you are interested please contact Mark Polny, and you may also want to start the passport paperwork if you not already have a passport.  All participants must be 16 years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent.  Gospel Road, Mississippi Mission trip, or similar experience along with an interview with Youth Minister Mark Polny is required.  

GOSPEL ROAD – Is a comprehensive Christian service experience for 9th – 12th graders.  Gospel Road begins Sunday evening at the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center, Hopkinton, where participants will spend the week.  Monday is a day of community building on La Vida’s Ropes course (at Gordon College).  Tuesday through Thursday brings us to ‘work sites’.  In 2007 work sites included places such as the Pernet Center, Worcester Food Bank and the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center.  Reflections on the week and a closing service conclude the week on Friday.  The fee for the week is $200, August 10-15.  Gospel Road brochures are available at the church exits. 

JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST CLUB!Will be held every Wednesday this summer!  Enjoy a hardy breakfast after attending the 8:00am Mass at St. Matthew.  A $3 donation for breakfast is requested, group will meet in the church hall.  All St. Matthew’s Youth are invited!

 

Religious Education

REGISTRATION FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2008-2009 –We now have almost 400 children in grades 1-8 registered for classes beginning in September.  If you have not sent in your registration forms yet, would you please do so as soon as possible so that planning can continue.  Registration forms and information may also be found on the parish website.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHERS – We are in need of teachers for all days in the monthly school year program.  Please consider sharing your faith with the children of our parish.  Training and teacher meetings will begin at the end of August.  Please call Ruth Flynn to express your interest.  Thank you in advance. 

REMINDER TO PICK UP YOUR BOOKS! – We have completed all monthly sessions for this year.  Thank you to all the teachers, helpers, families, and especially the children who make our work all worthwhile.  Anyone who missed the final class should call to pick up his or her book to complete the last lessons.  Have a wonderful summer!
